newspaper charity

While I do tend to think the best of people, I am somewhat rocked by my neighbor's tendency to steal my Sunday paper. I watch people on my floor a little more and in my spare time contemplate the proper way to address such. So, while an item of a petty nature, I am curious how you would handle this.

So...I posted 3 "Please stop stealing my paper, I enjoy it late Sunday though I may not pick it up early. Thank you kindly!" signs. After seeing them posted for a little over 24-hours and a growing concern that neighbors would think that a very angry person was behind the door, I took them down. BUT (!) the paper was waiting for me when I returned home late Sunday. Success? Randomstance?

Ah, it's encouraging to know that signs work! How much would you have paid to a signwriter for such a trio of signs? Were these computer print-outs? Handwritten? Would a handwritten sign get better results in these conditions? We must do more testing.

Ah...this must be coming from someone with a sign business in the household...smile! The price I am willing to pay is commensurate with the benefit: the present value of Sunday papers for the remainder of my tenancy. More testing? OK, whose paper :)
