A trip to Arizona to spend a little time with Grandma B provided some respite from drizzly 45 degree Seattle days. No wonder "snow birds" flock to the state!
For a Sunday afternoon trip, we went out to Bard to see the date palms and in search of a date shake. Yes. A date shake. I must admit that the date is a personally underappreciated fruit. I've read of the health benefits online since returning home and believe that the benefits of the date might offset the detriments of the milk shake. Curious combo.
Seeing the fields of salad greens, cauliflower, etc. reminds me that I should actually wash my produce before consuming it...something my dear sister would certainly applaud me for...smile....
Another cause for thought was the acres of white fifth-wheel trailers of retirees. How curious that this could be the culmination of careers and life efforts. A friend pointed out that it could be the allure of the simple life that draws them. Perhaps. I suppose the previously-noted good weather, retired friends and plentiful golf courses don't hurt. Or maybe we all have a bit of wanderlust in us and a motorhome makes it comfortable. I do need a VW pop-top van!
There are few things better than rising early for a sunrise hike...this time Telegraph Pass. The adventure of going somewhere before the "common man" is awake is consistently gratifying.
Even though I was only here a short time, the Southwest did show it's colors...a decent sunset, a lizard on a wall and multiple cactus...cactuses...cacti...hmmm...anyway, a good trip!
